In the summer of 2012 we purchased our 'show quality' goslings from Holderread Waterfowl Farm & Preservation Center and are greatly looking forward to some first-generation goslings.
Shetland are a hardy and compact breed originating from the Scottish Isles. They are known for doing well in a free-range system, and our plump pair have certainly proved this! They are also an auto-sexing breed, meaning the mature feathers of the goose has gray patches while the gander is white. They do look quite a bit like the North American pilgrim goose.
You can find out more information about this breed from the American Livestock Breeds Conservatory
We are hoping to have a small number of naturally raised goslings for sale over the summer, price T.B.D. but expect to pay around $50 per gosling.
